A return to WoW
The first time I played World of Warcraft was maybe around 2006. I’m guessing a little, it could have been as late as 2008. Either way, I was sucked in pretty good at the time. I left using Linux full-time so I could have Windows to play the game. I got a nice Dell XPS tower to play it. I was all in. Though I’m not sure how long this stint lasted but, maybe a year. Eventually I had less free time and had to focus on work and family, so I put it down.
Maybe back in 2020 I picked it up again, but only for like a month and I saw the time suck start right away and put it down. Then around 2023 I put a good solid amount of free time into it since I worked from home, I had much more flexibility with my free time. Eventually I had to buckle down as work got more demanding and the kids had more activities to do. Away it went.
Now, in 2025, I still work from home. But my evenings are more free. The kids are older and want their time away from mom and dad, we are officially annoying. Television these days really sucks, good shows are few and far between and spread across multiple streaming services. I mainly watch TV with my wife when she has her free time.
So, when I have an hour or maybe two free some evenings, I thought WoW would be much more entertaining for me than scrolling endlessly looking for a show to watch. Therefore, I am returning. I believe I have the free time, and the willpower to not make it not such a horrible time suck, yet still have a good time. Let alone WoW provides basically a lifetime of opportunity, I don’t think I could possibly ever have the time to go through all the content, so it will just be me getting a little in every couple days and letting my mind forget the daily news or other things in the day to day.
Let’s hope I don’t become an addict and can keep a modest pace of fun and enjoyment without it getting in the way of real life. Now, what do I make as my main?
